  1. Cruel and unusual is a direct prohibition against torture, not executions. I don't think executing a murderer is a bad thing at all. Someone has proven they are a threat to society and should be removed. If a dog is shown to be severely aggressive and\or rabid, we put it down for its sake. Why would we show more compassion for a dog than a person? In principle I'm not against the death penalty, in practice I am. My arguments against the death penalty are the ones arguing against the efficacy of our judicial system and bureaucracy. This guy's argument is, "I agree the government isn't effective in its justice system or bureaucracy, but they should be allowed to kill people." Bad argument.
