  1. We should be studying gender issues (from trans to intersex) a lot more than we are. There was a time, not that long ago, when they just though gender was 100% derived from social training and believed children were Tabula Rasa, or blank slates. We know more now, especially with some very tragic examples. David Reimer comes to mind. Really, you shouldn't interfere in someone's social and gender identity development, it causes a LOT of damage. If someone is trans, they're trans. No banning of surgery will fix that. Intersex takes a lot of different forms and making the wrong decision can and will lead to suicide.

  2. Who is performing sex reassignment surgery on children? I know of one instance and that was DECADES ago during the Tabula Rasa (Blank Slate) theory of gender identity back in the mid to late 60s. David Reimer, and he wasn't trans, he had a horrible surgical accident during circumcision. His doctor told his parents to give him reassignment surgery and raise him as a girl, he'd never know the difference. We're a LONG way from that era. I would urge caution with prescribing hormone blockers as it can impede later surgeries (leaving less tissue for reassignment surgery) until some long-term studies can be done, but that's as extreme as I'm willing to go.
