  1. We don't have a pure democracy. This is a representational republic where citizens (and most people are citizens) are allowed to vote for their representatives. Wisdom of the crowd is supposed to kick in, but that supposes everyone has the same information. We don't. Almost everyone is stuck in their echo chambers.
