  1. I get flak for referring to the dictionary when I want to define a word. "The dictionary isn't prescriptive, it's descriptive!" Yeah, yeah, yeah. I hear you. Now, let me explain. If we aren't using language the same way, we aren't communicating. I refer to the dictionary when there's confusion to set a standard and move from there, so we both have common ground in which to understand one another. Grift: a group of methods for obtaining money falsely through the use of swindles, frauds, dishonest gambling, etc. They are using it correctly, but their foundation is false. They believe David to be a fraud or dishonest. So, that, in their minds, is a grift.
