Either our founding fathers made a GLARING oversight when it came to prosecuting a president in office for committing crimes, or they didn't and are being abused by current political actors. The founding fathers held the office of president to be of extremely high importance and put in place mechanisms to remove the sitting president should he or she become a burden to that office. I don't think they envisioned JUST how polarized a nation we would eventually become, or they would have included language specifically to make prosecution of a sitting president possible under specific situations. In fact, I do believe that if they were our congressmen today, they'd unanimously vote to impeach.

Majik0715 Tell, when it comes to this situation, the founding fathers did do one thing absolutely correctly. They made our foundational document, The Constitution, the be adaptable. We CAN amend The Constitution to include what to do with a genuinely criminal president, and the ability to prosecute a sitting president. The conservatives are worried that doing so would "jeopardize integrity of the office of the president." In actuality, ensuring the office is capable of being purged of a bad actor with criminal goals would reinforce the integrity of the office.

Majik0715 It's less about being gutless (though I tend to agree it IS gutless), and more about the fact that they care more about power than integrity. If they stop one president on their side because of how bad he is, they'd lose some power, even though it would be beneficial in the long term. It's like businesses caring more about short term growth instead of long term stability. It can be actively damaging to their party, but they can't see past the most immediate potential of power loss.
