If you asked me to describe someone that's called Trump's spiritual advisor, I'd probably have said the kind of preacher that'd molest children and then claim God forgave him.

@Cynna1065 To be fair, that isn’t the job of a spiritual advisor. It’s not about decency, it’s about going to heaven, which, according to dogma, a great many indecent people will simply because they believe.

@Cynna1065 That's what a just God would wish. Take it us with the writers of the Bible. Mind you, the Old Testament was written by Hebrew chauvinists and supremacists and the New Testament was written by people trying to retcon the Old Testament to include them.

There is a disturbing trend in evangelical circles of seeing all "sins" as the same. Doesn't matter if it's something as banal as using God's name in vain, working on the sabbath, or something horrific like committing an act of rape on a child. For all their protestations of wanting to protect children, they're perfectly willing to have a child sex predator leading their churches as long as they say the right words. Not all of them, obviously, but I saw this article. The father's reaction to finding this out was to demand the pastor's removal from the church, not going to the police and making sure he faces justice.
