They treat Autism as a debilitating disease that will turn a child into a zombie or a drooling idiot when, in fact, it is a cluster of unrelated neurological conditions, most of which aren't crippling or even really debilitating. Most autistic people are highly functional people with atypical neurology. It's why we need to lose the term and embrace neuroatypical. It loses the stigma of a disease as someone that is atypical isn't wrong or broken. They're just different.

  3.  @micheleconner5083  Starts in the womb can mean quite a bit. Anything from genetics (I'm positive some forms of Autism are genetically heritable), to typical non-genetic malfunctions of development, to environmental interference, to mutation. We might be able to link specific types of Autism to any one or all of these possibilities.
