To be completely honest, we just don't know how frequent false allegations are. We might even go so far as to say we CAN'T know. There are X amount of sexual assaults and the number of reports or accusations don't equal that number. For one, there are a number of accusations that are made and then withdrawn, not all of which are false. If we discount faulty memory and mistaken identity, we still have a number of made-up-from-whole-cloth accusations. The major problem is that any sexual assault or outright rape victim has an obligate moral duty to report and submit to investigation. A person capable of assaulting one person is capable of assaulting more. We need each and every assault victim to report quickly to remove someone that is a threat to our society. Women let embarrassment and fear override this duty, which is why we need more comprehensive psychotherapy available to victims to give them the strength necessary to overcome this, because otherwise a sexual assaulter or rapist can and will do so again, victimizing another. If you abandon your duty to report, you are tacitly allowing another person to be violated.

@thebatonmaster While I believe that false allegations aren't that common, I have to acknowledge the truth that we don't know how common they are. Even if they're only one in ten million (they're more frequent than that) each and every allegation should be investigated to ascertain the truth. Allegations don't even need to be false to be mistaken. That's the entire problem with "listen and believe," it makes people victims of the system. Our system of justice is such that it's preferable for 100 guilty people to go free than to have one innocent person convicted of a crime he or she didn't admit.
