  1. The problem with making public predictions is that it tends to push the outcomes predicted. If you keep asking people, "do you think we'll have another civil war?" you end up putting the idea into people's minds and making it more likely that people will start to consider it a good idea. If the media wasn't asking this because someone keeps predicting it, no one would be considering it, or at the very least, not enough to make it a more plausible reality. Everyone's Nostradamus after the fact, and the ones making predictions beforehand hide their failures and only promote the correct guesses.
