"Why do you want to tell kids that they live in a racist country?" Okay, one, because telling children the truth is exceptionally important in bringing up a person who will be an adult making adult decisions based on what they understand. Lying to them to spare their feelings will make that adult unable to deal with reality. Two, you can't fix a problem until you recognize it. Showing children that this nation was created with racist ideologies is the first step in removing those ideologies. If a child grows up understanding racism and wanting to fix it the adult they will become will be more likely to do what is needed to help fix it.
