  1. My rule of thumb is that government should run anything where a profit motive would cause abuse and harm. Making a car shouldn't be the government, but making sure the cars are safe and up to emission standards should be the government. When it comes to regulation of commerce and manufacturing, the government needs a more adversarial relationship, especially when it comes to punishing bad actors. Large fines tend to be to little, when rules are flouted and lives are harmed or destroyed, responsibility needs to be taken, and when it's not, assigned and really punished. A fine for killing someone is not good for society, it sets a monetary value for human life. Also, more than anything, large corporations that get too big need to be broken up. Amazon needs to be about 12 different companies, and disallowed from recombining.
