  1. People should decide, that is to say, the people who are seeking an abortion or not as the case may be. If one woman is seeking an abortion, her neighbors and fellow citizens of her state should have zero say in the matter. The issue at play here is religious ideology, and a very recent one I might add, intentionally misunderstanding the nature of reproduction. The vast majority of fertilized ovum do not actually result in a living breathing child. Most are either rinsed out of the body during menstruation having not implanted in the uterine wall or result in a miscarriage, most of which the woman has no idea happened. So, this being the case, their religious ideology is claiming that most babies die uselessly without anyone knowing. Sounds like your God is sick.

  2.  @mindlander  As long as you keep your religion to yourself, I don't care what you do. When you try to make me act according to your beliefs, then we're going to have a problems. Why do you think the founding fathers wanted a separation of the church and state. It protects people of one religion from being abused by people of a different religion. And you'd probably understand that if you weren't lied to by religious authoritarians.

  3. It's because of religious ideology and a fairly recent one at that. They have made themselves believe every fertilized egg is a person. Most fertilized eggs do not result in a living breathing child. Most don't even reach implantation and get rinsed out of the body. Only like a third of fertilized eggs make it to birth, the majority result in miscarriage so early in the process the woman isn't even aware it happened.
