  1. ​ @simonshotter8960 pretty sure they ESCORT carriers & hunt down then DESTROY the enemy for the US Carrier Strike Groups... Hence the name destroyer. Yes a single destroyer may patrol an area but that's because of their ability to neutralize others ships. They're not the Coast Guard patrolling their own waters with other ships or aircraft just minutes away. Whatever you call them the only thing you don't want to hear is one of them is in your AO looking for you. That's certainly NOT a good day.
