Until 1939, he was popular throughout Europe, adored throughout Germany, and seen as something of a progressive leftist politician - having completely turned around Germany's fortunes and created Europe's first welfare state Who knows what mental state he was in by 1945 But at least he was liked by his own people, unlike Stalin, who murdered millions and invaded multiple countries with no outcry from the 'international community' or 'media'
