yes but curtis would never put oil on the gland , hammer it on , then weld it with oil oozing out from under the gland as you weld. also they didn't weld it on the inside at the end so i wouldn't trust it for high pressure. their weld may crack over time.

read the description of their business. they talk about cnc lathes and all kinds of precision . yet what we see is a different world entirely.

@stevengabalis4986 yes you know he did this before so likely they keep whatever left of the cranks and use them to repair other cranks that broke somewhere else.

those pipes were not directly from a ship. they were honed inside and are true round. i don't know if a ship would have those kinds of pipes. maybe their supplier redoes them to be good. usually you use drawn over mandrel and honed tubing.

@clivequinn8978 nope

yet they actually have a dial indicator they could use. on the other hand with a big cylinder like that they are machining the far end so being off slightly at the chuck won't matter. they did use the indicator on the end they were working on but it was confusing what they were doing.

@crankfotton are you proud?

i have watched about 50 videos from pakistan and india making things with lathes . this is the first one where they actually have some precision measuring tools. then they go and put oil on the gland and weld it with oil on it ??

YAH that birds nest when he was cutting is super dangerous. there was a guy killed in canada by a birds nest that suddenly caught and whipped around. the razor sharp wire went over his head and cut his head off. it was a larger part than this but this bird nest could still do some damage.

@steveshotrodsvideo2950 no he did this before and it works because people are not stupid. if it blows up the customer will know not to use this guy. all his tools look well used . i like the wooden polishing tool that holds the sand paper.

@DiscoveringSkills i don't think curtis would attempt this cause it's a different market and he guarantees his stuff. he has tried welding some cast iron that didn't work out . this is forged steel so plausible this repair works.

it's a chain sprocket. those are not so high precision and often not hardened anyway. that was not a weld but what was left after a weld was cut off by torches.
