  1. and a woven design might cut itself where the fibers cross. when pneumatic tires were invented they tried woven reinforcement. the tires kept blowing in 50 miles. they found the cords were cutting themselves where they cross. no tire has woven cords . each layer is parallel cords. granted in this rotor that may not happen but non 90 degree cords don't increase the strength and do prevent nesting.

  3.  @Chainyanker007  sounded like ductile iron castings not steel. in cleveland they rebuild a 50,000 ton forging press at alcoa. they had a german press company Siempelkamp do the rebuild . they cast new platens from ductile iron as it would be stiffer and stronger than using steel . with presses it's all about stiffness and deflection.

  4.  @dragosmihai3489  i doubt insulation needs to be thicker . there is a minimum thickness of insulation you can put on wires and still be robust enough for things like vibration and chafing etc. that easily works with 48 v without increasing thickness.

  6. when they talk about speed sensitive steering reminded me about how don garlits perfected the first successful rear engined dragster. he made the steering only move a small amount via a ratio instead of the 1:1 like normal. that tamed the car and made it go straight instead of into the guardrail.

  10. people who complain plastics can't be recycled forget they can be recycled into energy. that's a totally legitimate recycling use it's just environuts have a baby over it. yet we can pump out oil refine it for fuel and burn that. so what's the difference if we make it into plastic then later burn it as well, just like the oil. as long as it's done correctly not in some open pit or uncontrolled manner then it's the same. it's just most people don't think of burning as recycling . well most people are wrong.

  11. when talking about energy consumption they should use the input energy amount not the capacity of the battery to get mpg equivalent. when you charge you pay for all the electricity including the losses. so saying 100 kwhr gets you x miles should actually be 105 kwhr or whatever you actually have to put in to charge. means mileage is actually less. when you buy a gallon of gas you get a gallon . you don't pay for 1.05 gallon and only get 1 gallon.

LFP batteries were patented by john goodenough who also was coinventor of lithium ion. somehow the chinese had some agreement that they could make lfp batteries for the chinese market without paying royalties or getting sued. the patent recently expired so now tesla can import the batteries for use in north america. they do lose more capacity in the cold so don't know how well that will work in the north.

  18. i would buy 50 of those robots at 100k each if they can work in our factory . have to lift 40 - 50 lbs though but they can be tethered as well for power .

  25. i have been molding fiberglass for 30 years . compression molding , smc, and wet molding where you handle sheets of fiberglass. i always tell newbies. get some baby oil take a shower . after but before you get out squirt some baby oil on you arms and anywhere else you want. takes away 95% of the itching.
