yes that is the whole point of tariffs to make the import more expensive so the domestic can increase prices. where that really falls apart is if there is no domestic equal but there is a tariff. like cell phones. no way we can make those here

we purchased 3 big molding machines last year to expand manufacturing here and had to pay 500k in tariffs. if that tariff was double that we could only afford 2 machines so we would expand less and employ less people.

@amrgg3272 it may have helped workers who make steel but it hurt 10 times as many workers who make products from steel especially if the company exports those steel products,.

@marct9942 doesn't work that way. if the goods come from china it doesn't matter where the company is hq'd they can be subject to tariffs . but he didn't put tariffs on consumer goods . he put it on industrial goods so the common man would not see it. if you iphone went up by 30% you would see it for sure.

yes they think that the foreign company pays them to the us . NOPE you pay the tariffs to the govt here from your pocket. it's cause he lies and says it that way.

you don't explain it correctly. the importers of the goods pay the tariffs and then pass it on to the consumer. NO money is collected from the foreign seller it the domestic importer of those goods that pays the tax.i know ,. we paid 500k last year to customs on machinery we imported from china. machinery we couldn't get domestically.on top of that we need to pay for a bond and pay a customs broker. so in your cake story the govt tells your customers who sell your cakes in that county they have to pay the dollar for every cake they get from you.

canada taxes their fuel in a more realistic manner than the usa. europe is way higher so canada is in between.

@oliversherman2414 nope not at all FALSE FALSE his big usmca free trade deal moved most manufacturing to MEXICO . that was ENTIRELY trumps deal. john deere is moving to mexico because HIS trade deal lets them manufacture there and sell here with NO tariffs.

@MattBuild4 trump rode the coattails of the obama presidency. he inherited a fantastic economy . biden inherited a TERRIBLE economy from trump. the usa has recovered better from covid than any other industrialized country in the world. but people like you are , well it was better when trump was around. yes because obama made it so .
