Not in the quantities required. Most people typically need 4,000 IU/day as a minimum. You will see endless comments recommending mushrooms, eggs etc. but if you do the calculations the quantities needed are totally impractical and very expensive.

While you are technically correct, the fact remains that vitamin D is a generic and over 1,000x cheaper than most patented pharmaceuticals from the perspective of personal individual cost.
