  1. The long-term scenario for going to/from a colony on Mars is likely to be a dedicated spaceship permanently in an orbit that transits between Earth and Mars. Other spaceships will be used at each end to dock and transfer people and cargo.

  2. The habitats will be underground. People will be selected for their mental stability in addition to everything else. There will be multiple habitats and there’ll be no shortage of entertainment. In this case, cabin fever isn’t a thing anyway, it’s more about social isolation than physical.
