Hilariously, this issue is exposing Plaid Cymru as English-hating Marxists, they aren’t really pro-Welsh and never have been.

Welsh died out for a while, and modern Welsh was mostly invented by a few academics. One way of telling this is the Welsh words for 11 and 12. These numbers get used a lot so in most languages they have dedicated words. ‘Welsh’ didn’t do this for a while. When people commented on this, they just made up a few more words to use instead. How many languages do you know that have two different ways of saying 11 and 12? Totally bogus. (My grandmother was Welsh).

@king offa Not true, sorry, you’ve been taken in by the propaganda just like all the others... ...But then your adopted name tells us all that already.

@The505Guys Then explain the ridiculously obviously made up numerals that were them ‘improved’ to hide the scam... ...oh look! No reply, imagine my shock.

John-Supablaze Your ignorance of your own history is hilarious. And thinking the Romans spoke their numbers the way they wrote them down is profoundly ignorant. Go look it up and educate yourself, your inferiority complex is showing. And the deepest coal mine in Wales was never remotely a ‘mile underground’ you’re a 🤡

@king offa Where did I call you a Welsh nationalist? You appear to have comprehension difficulties.
1
@The505Guys The evidence is ‘Welsh’ having two ways of saying the numbers 11 and 12. But you’re too stupid to understand the problem.

John-Supablaze So now you’re engaging in whataboutism, imagine my shock. You’re not going to discuss: Your ignorance about Roman numerals. Your ignorance about the depth of Welsh Mines. Why ‘Welsh’ has two different ways of saying the number 11 and the number 12. You’re a total 🤡 The number 14 doesn’t get used as often as 11 and 12 so obviously the use of a simpler word for the number is less common in languages. But keep digging, you’re hilarious.

@king offa Nooooooo, your adopted name just shows you’re an arrogant ignorant clueless pseudo intellectual, but you be you. Welsh was banned by the Act of Union in 1535, including being taught in schools.

@king offa You keep ascribing things to me that I haven’t said. I have nothing against either the Welsh or ‘brown people’, and have said nothing that indicates otherwise. You really are cognitively challenged. The people you’ve met will have no more idea about the subject that you evidently have. You’re “keen interest in history” is completely wasted, given that you’re incapable of learning anything. Welsh was totally dead for over a century before being resurrected. I’ll say it again in case you missed it... ‘Welsh’ has two ways of saying 11. This is because the first attempt to reconstruct it was too obvious and much derided, so they just invented another more plausible word instead. The same applies to 12. But you’re welcome to believe whatever you like, you’re clearly incapable of independent thought.

@The505Guys Well done, except neither are natural words for 11. They were both constructed. The reason for the number of Welsh speaking in 1920 was the resurgence of interest (largely driven by English living in Wales) in the early 19th century. It had totally died out by 1650 and was then reconstructed around 1750. The ‘Welsh’ language is no more authentic than the ridiculous ‘Welsh’ costume invented by Lady Llanover.
1
John-Supablaze Obviously what was spoken depends on when you were referring to, but given your ridiculous reference to ‘mile’ deep mines, by then (1911) Welsh has been resurrected for well over a century so they probably spoke a mixture of ‘Welsh’ and English. This has no bearing whatsoever on the total extinction of the language by 1650. But believe whatever you like.

John-Supablaze I have made no claim about English, you’re engaging in whataboutism again.

@king offa 1) That isn’t true for the number eleven, but thanks for playing, and the Welsh also have a word for dozen (which is also blatantly invented). 2) I’m not attacking anything, I’m just correcting misunderstandings with historical fact - that is the stated purpose of this YouTube channel.
