  2. The prevailing (‘trade’) winds in the Atlantic naturally produce a triangular route for wind-powered shipping. The cargo from America to Europe was pretty obvious - tobacco, cotton etc. The cargo from Europe to Africa was obvious as well - manufactured goods. The problem was the cargo from Africa to America, they only had one product worth anything!
