  2. Yes there were some lies, but to deny it even happened is misguided. Even today, huge swathes of Europe are entirely devoid of them. Nobody forced Irving to sue Lipstadt, it was entirely his own decision. There are interesting similarities to Oscar Wilde suing the Marquess of Queensberry.
