  2. The denial of reality in the comments is curious. The guns existence is well documented. The fuzing at the time would have been proximity, not altitude and have destroyed houses as effectively as bombers. The low probability of downing a bomber is equally well documented - ‘Bomber’ by Len Deighton covers aspects of this and is recommended.

  3. Until recently I had an auntie who was still riddled with shrapnel (from an air raid, true source unknown). Fragments slowly migrated through her body and would occasionally be expelled.
