Totally off-topic, but I have noticed that a certain book written by a Nobel prize winning author is strangely unobtainable, remaining unpublished in English for decades.

Thank you Simon for clarifying. I would add that even if the shipping company was under the control of a certain ‘category’ of person, the motivation is still obviously commercial. The tickets weren’t free, and moving 400 random people hardly constitutes the fruition of a plan to transform Europe. The cut-rate price of £28 (for deck travel) was a substantial sum in 1948 being over £1,000 in today’s money. The cabin price of £43 would cost the equivalent of over £1,600 today.
