Len Deighton in one of his (Harry Palmer?) novels mentions that at one point in the battle, the French cavalry captured most of the British artillery but didn’t have the equipment to ‘spike’ the guns. Deighton says they could have broken all the ramrods and this may have changed the outcome. (Or it might have been James Mitchell in ‘Callan’).

Nathan Rothschild won. He made a fortune on the stock exchange because he knew who’d won at Waterloo before anybody else, supposedly through early use of homing pigeons for messages. (This is disputed, but the making of lots of money on the Napoleonic wars isn’t).
