It’s interesting how a combination of bias and ignorance work to change the narrative: Volvo had a report that claimed EVs took 100,000 Km before they recouped the greater emissions produced in making them compared to ICE cars. When referenced, this magically became 100,000 miles (it’s 62,500), and later became 200,000 miles. It was based on 95% of electricity being generated from coal (in the U.K. it’s 2.4%). It assumed no increase in renewables over time. It assumed no improvements in EVs. It ignored recycling of the batteries. It was based on Volvo’s (not great) EV.

Sadly, it often doesn’t.

@FutureAzA The study is ‘Carbon footprint report Volvo C40 Recharge’. On reviewing it again, it’s 110,000 Km for their ‘C40 Recharge’ with a ‘Global electricity mix’ and compared to their XC40 ICE. (Page 26). The report itself looks excellent, the problem is people quoting it out of context and then being misquoted by others, plus summarising a 50+ page report into a single line.
