An interesting thought experiment is that when FSD becomes 1,000,000+ times safer than human drivers. Car accidents will virtually cease to occur. All the safety features currently in cars will become virtually obsolete. These have typically DOUBLED the weight of cars since the 80s. Once humans are banned from manually driving on public roads, all the excess weight can be stripped out, making the cars more responsive and extending their range considerably.

Composites (especially carbon fibre) are generally more expensive and less predictable in their failure modes.

Like most legacy companies, they only do anything beyond their comfort zone when forced to by competition or legislation. The obvious example being seatbelts.

@AudiTTQuattro2003 I don’t care if you wear them or not. It took legislation to force the car companies to fit seat belts. The evidence shows wearing them is a good idea.

I love convertibles but they’re a cultural thing. Europe doesn’t really understand them (I’m in the U.K.). They mostly think you’re better just having aircon.
