But think about the irony and symbolism of such photographs viewed in the future of Traitor Trump mugging the flag. Instead of wrapping the flag around him and treating it with dignity, he wraps himself around the flag, presuming ownership and mastery of it and that which it represents, as would some authoritarian dictator. And while Trump quintessentially represented the ignorance that has long pervaded America, he did not represent most Americans, America, its ideals, or that for which the flag stands. Rather, the image will invoke memories of the great destructive harm he has done to our democracy and nation, of his betrayal to our flag.

The Republican party is composed of grifters, grafters, white supremacists, Christian nationalists, lunatics, assorted bigots, and the gullible sheep they prey upon. Their ideology is no longer conservatism, but fascism and nihilism. It traffics in lies, denials, deceits, delusions, gaslighting, dog-whistles, crackpot conspiracy theories, projectionism, Whataboutism, jingoism, bogus victimhood, ignorant culture wars, and hypocrisy.
