  1. Congressional Republicans just proved--once again--they are unwilling to operate in good faith, first in the House, now in the Senate, unwilling to even pass a BIPARTISAN commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection! How many times does Lucy have to pull the football out at the last minute before Charlie Brown Manchin finally wises up? New voting rights protections sorely needed in the wake of new Republican Jim Crow legislation nationwide, a badly needed infrastructure and jobs bill, and numerous other pieces of critical legislation the Democrats want to pass don't stand a chance if the filibuster is allowed to stand. If Republicans are going to abuse the filibuster, then it's time to LOSE THE FILIBUSTER!!! As Republicans continue relitigating the 2020 election in Arizona, Georgia, and other states based upon a Big Lie they pushed, and after Republicans relitigated Benghazi for years with TEN partisan investigations, Moscow McConnell doesn't want a bipartisan commission to investigate an insurrection against the nation's Capitol because it would be "relitigating?" Nevermind the heights of hypocrisy reached here; that's an insult to the intelligence of the American people, and a gross dereliction of duty by Republicans. Naturally, Republicans don't want their ties to terrorists and the insurrection exposed, nor does McCarthy want to be forced to testify about his damning phone call to Traitor Trump on January 6th. While it would be better to have a bipartisan commission with both sides operating in good faith to get to the truth, Republicans have demonstrated themselves to be incapable of operating in good faith. Given that they amply proved that by voting against the January 6 commission, it will actually be for the better, because a House select committee investigating January 6 won't be blocked by Republicans from subpoenaing witnesses, or bogged down with Republican obstructionism, obfuscations, deflections, and irrelevancies.

  2. You don't get denialism without nihilism. As life-long conservative Bill Kristol astutely pointed out, the Republican party has embraced nihilism. Republicans denying systemic racism; Republicans denying climate change; Republicans still labeling COVID-19 a "hoax;" Republicans refusing to wear masks or social distance after over half-a-million American fatalities from COVID-19; Congressional Republicans obstructing a COVID-19 stimulus bill certain to pass just to delay vital and urgently needed relief to Americans desperate for help; not one Congressional Republican in either chamber voting for the badly needed stimulus bill; Republican governors dropping mask mandates and all restrictions on businesses, heedless of rising case counts in their states and deadly new variants of the virus; and Republican leaders continuing to push the Big Lie that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen without evidence and in disregard of plentiful evidence and facts to the contrary, even AFTER their Big Lie incited a terrorist attack by a mindless Republican mob against the nation's Capitol in insurrection against the government, attempting to overturn a legitimate election, sieging, storming, sizing, sacking, defiling, defacing and disgracing America's citadel of, and temple to, democracy; and now Republicans attempting history revisionism, trying to sweep the January 6 insurrection under the rug, refusing to support a January 6 bipartisan commission----these are all prime examples of nihilism.

  5. GOP cult: “Democracy is great…only so long as we can subvert it with lies, a multitude of Jim Crow voter suppression laws, egregious gerrymandering, obstruction, sedition, and terrorism to gain power and maintain our corrupt, plutocratic, minority fascist rule!” Meet the new ugly face of white supremacy in America! Funny--it looks just like the old ugly face. Except this time they got their Imperial Wizard installed as Chief Jester of the Supreme Court, where he magically declared racism somehow no longer a problem in America, paving the way for thousands of new Jim Crow laws and egregious gerrymandering suppressing and disenfranchising millions of American voters. Of course, harsh realities will continue to exist irrespective of any blind eye or pretentious, capricious edicts by some Supreme Court. And Roberts' conservative SCOTUS decisions only confirm how the white supremacist problem and its perpetual "fix" on the American judicial branch and justice system has never gone away, as America continues to struggle with overcoming a racist history of colonialism, slavery, and discrimination. "...we must recognize that one of the two political parties is routinely engaged in sabotaging free elections with voter-suppression efforts aimed at the minority voters it cannot win over at the ballot box. These anti-democratic power grabs became a GOP staple decades before Donald Trump, culminating in the actions of a George W. Bush–anointed chief justice, John Roberts, whose Supreme Court shredded the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As Roberts famously put it in his 2007 opinion for the plurality, “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.” Since then, discrimination on the basis of race has only expanded in states like Georgia and Florida, where Black voting rights have been cavalierly undermined and trashed." ~ Frank Rich, November 9, 2020 (Written even before the rash of new Jim Crow laws being proposed and passed by Republicans in many states.) Chief Justice Roberts and his fellow conservative SCOTUS justices: the architects of a new era of Jim Crow in America. Need to expand SCOTUS to 15 justices, do away with the filibuster, pass a new Voting Rights Act, and let Biden appoint six new justices to bring sanity and justice back to the Supreme Court.
