TNR doesn't work in diminishing feral cat populations. Anyone who has tried to reason with TNR advocates know that they are in denial and don't debate the issue in good faith. As pointed out in this video, feral cats live short, miserable lives. It's not humane to allow an invasive species like feral cats to prey upon native species that haven't developed protections against them, and it's not humane to feral cats either. Obviously, euthanizing them is less costly than TNR, especially when the total cost to wildlife and human health is taken into account. But what is lacking is the political will because of the willful ignorance of species-centric TNR proponents.

@GatsbyHAG ~ Case in point proving the intellectual dishonesty of TNR nuts is "justanother musicnerd" here, who deceitfully compares the killing of a few thousand birds to millions of cats. The reality is that those cats are killing a few BILLION birds plus millions of other beneficial species each year -- just in the U.S. alone. There's quite a big difference between a few thousand and a few billion, and deliberately downplaying and fudging the true cost demonstrates the unwillingness of TNR advocates to be objective and to debate in good faith. As someone else had already pointed out here, that person also chose to ignore how feral cats are a disease vector. Humans are five times as likely to get rabies from a cat than from a dog. And cats can carry other diseases that are harmful to humans and other species, as well. For instance, the toxoplasmosis often present in cats that is spread through their fecal matter gets into waterways, where it can be harmful and fatal to fish and other aquatic life. TNR advocates also ignore how feral cats are not just a public health threat, but a public nuisance, too. In their species-centric perspective, TNR advocates willfully blind themselves to the broader morality heavily favoring euthanasia of feral cats and the need for society to be responsible stewards of our environment.
