Polls in Israel have consistently shown for years that the majority Jewish-Israeli population does not believe that Palestinian-Israelis should have equal rights. However, Israel is accused of being an apartheid regime not so much because of the discrimination against Palestinian-Israelis within Israel's undeclared borders, but because of its illegal settlements in the West Bank, its 54-year-old brutal and oppressive military occupation of Palestinian lands, and its unequal two-tier justice system imposed upon Palestinians in the oPt, the West Bank in particular. Members of a South African group who lived under the apartheid system in South Africa and traveled to Israel and the oPt to study the issue, witnessing first-hand what is happening to the Palestinians under Israeli military occupation, stated that the apartheid conditions imposed upon Palestinians by Israel were WORSE than what they experienced in South Africa.
