@juubilo1509 More like most Americans can barely drive and a manual shifter would cut into their texting time which is why they are so enamored with self driving cars. That way they can have the prestige of having private transportation without having to actually drive.

@popefacto5945 Yes but the cost to recycle them is greater than the cost to make new batteries. So your recycled battery will cost 15-50% more than a new one.

@popefacto5945 Both.

@andresabastante9539 Until the CVT breaks then you might as well buy a new car cause it cost almost as much as a 2nd hand car to repair a CVT.

It may have been brought up earlier in one of the comments but while Tesl builds many of their own parts, much of the raw materials have to be brought by oil-driven ships each of which generates more pollution per mile than all of the cars registered in Nevada and diesel-powered trucks and the Tesla factory itself runs on electricity that is only partly green.

@chrismckay5005 Bad automatic transmissions, their manual transmissions are ok.

tinwoods The US is not always the most innovative or the first to innovate nor is it even the best at it. The Automatic Transmissions or "slush boxes" were introduced by US companies were shitty heavy things that robbed the engines of power and were expensive to repair. It was a Frenchman who invented the first decent automatic transmission in the form of a dual clutch transmission that got rid of the torque converter and companies like Porsche developed it in their Le Mans race cars. The first production car to use it was the VW Golf The Ford version of this is the "Powershift" transmission developed by Getrag and is probably one of the worst shifting DCT's I've ever experienced.
