  1. The last nation to do something like this was Russia when Ukrainian units had crossed a river to establish a foothold north of Kherson, they blew up a dam to try to drown the troops. The Russians failed because they did not account for the water to recede after the initial flooding. The Ukrainians held on despite a concerted attack by Russian troops until Ukrainians forces from from the north arrived and the Russians retreated to avoid being surrounded.
