The weight issue only matters during bridge crossings. The M1A1 has the same ground pressure as the T90. So anywhere the T90 can go, the M1A1 and M1A2 can also go.

@rosshilton Different versions of the M1 have different ground pressures. M1A1 is the lightest the M1A2 with the extra armor is the heaviest.

@Ork20111 If you have people who can maintain helicopter and jet engines then you can maintain the M1's turbines. But if you insist that you must have a diesel engine, there is a drop in diesel engine option for the M1 tank.

Name a long range missile that the Russians can use against a tank
1
@nosfedss you want to use a missile that has never been demonstrated to be capable of hitting a moving target? A missile that is built in limited (2/mo) numbers and costs more than the tank you are shooting at?
1
@rollmops7714 At the distance where the shooter is fairly safe from the tank, it will take about 10-16 seconds to arrive. Enough time to pop smoke and move out of line of fire.
1
@nosfedss the terms are simple, Russian get the fu*k out of Ukraine. As far as another tank, Russia is losing 4 tanks for every 1 that Ukraine loses. If the Leo 2, Challenge r and Abrams can make that 6 tanks per 1 Ukrainian tank then good.
1
@nosfedss you can deny reality all you want, but folks have been tracking these losses and verifying the accuracy. And yeah, the Russians are losing 4 tanks for every 1 that the Ukrainians lose. Look the Oryx database if you want to see the truth. And Oryx is on the conservative side, just compare it to the numbers issued by the Russian and Ukrainian governments. As to why Ukraine needs more tanks, Russia is "winning", so why is it raiding its storage facilities for tanks that were retired 30-40 years ago? Ukrainians need more tanks just as the Americans, British and USSR needed more tanks. In war, equipment gets destroyed even when you win.

They solved the idle fuel consumption by using an auxiliary power unit when at idle

UK does not have enough fighters to send. Ukraine needs over 120 fighter aircraft, and they will need to be of the same model to keep the logistics simple. That rules out Typhoon and Eurofighter. That leaves the F-16 and JAS-39E. Grippen is more suited to Ukraine's operations and cheaper, easier to mentain F-16 is more available, there more of them available right now than there are Gripens. Also the F-16 plant can build 2 planes for every one that SAAB can build.
1
@gerrycrisostomo6571 you would be better off giving the Ukrainians Buccaneers instead of Tornado.
1
@rosshilton Look up ground pressure measured in lb/sq in that is what determines what ground a tank can move over
1
@rosshilton correct, Despite the weight difference the ground pressure of the M1A1, M1A2, T72 T80 and T90 are within 4psi of each other T72B3M/T72B4 it's 12.8PSI, T90 13.34psi, M1A1 13.8psi, M1A2 15.4psi In comparison, a standing horse 75psi, average 6ft tall human, 16psi.
1
@srelma use which ever system you are comfortable with. regardless, if a horse can or human can walk across that field, so can an M1A2. So the weight of the M1A2 is not an issue when driving on a road or a field. Where the weight matters is when it's being transported (plane, truck, rail) or when it's crossing a bridge.
1
@rosshilton a standing horse has a ground pressure 75psi, average 6ft tall human has a ground pressure of 16psi. The M1A2, the heaviest of the series is 15+ PSI, less than a horse, less than you standing in the same field.
1
@rosshilton My foot is higher than the ground so it will get more pressure. the weight of the tank is distributed by the tracks, think human with snow shoes. A human in boots, can't walk on snow, put him in snow shoes however.
1
@samalo2953 Depending on the location and the warhead, both M1A2 with it's current armor package will tank more hits than a leo 2 and rivals the Challenger 2 in armor protection. This is due to their constant armor upgrades in response to their experience in combat and their experience with the ATGM's

I'd be happy to maintain an old VW, ie the old 4cyl boxer engine bug. The new ones I would not touch with a ten foot pole, heck it's why I did not buy the MINI despite loving it's form and having grown up with the original Austin Mini.
1
Seriously? you can make tea in the Challenger?
1
In a pinch? The Aussies run their M1's on diesel and so did the US Army early on. The US Army switched to jet fuel because it was less volatile and they use it for all their trucks, MRAP's IFV's.
