The Ukrainians, they don't need to build tanks, NATO can fill their needs with Soviet era tanks while training new crews on the current NATO tanks and by the time those Soviet era tanks are gone, the NATO trained crews will be ready. Not to mention the near endless supply of ATGM's that can be carried by individual soldiers or mounted on 4x4's, The US and NATO have over a decade's worth of these that are nearing the end of their shelf life, so might as well give them to the Ukrainians to use.

The mid term and long term solution is to transition the Ukrainians to western kit as quickly as possible. That means identifying what they will need, (tanks, aircraft) setting up the logistics (spare parts, munitions, supplies), training the maintenance crews, then training the crews who will operate them. They should be doing that last month so that the Ukrainians can start fielding them by January next year.

I'd send the pilots 3-4 months early to train on the type months before the jets become available. That way, when the planes are available, they can just go to pick up the planes, do their check flights and ferry the planes to Ukraine. Facilities can be built ahead of time, as can support equipment. I'd use palletized cargo containers to create a mobile base and support facility. That way the entire base can be moved in the time that an air strike leaves the ground in Russia and be gone by the time missiles arrive.

From June through August it was fairly low. Fighting intensified in September through October. Then the fighting became more focused in the Donbas area and Luhansk front and the casualty rate fell significantly. Despite the Russian media claims, the volume of Russian artillery is not as great as it was in March and April, so fewer casualties as it's not going to do anything to anyone in the trench if it hits 2 meters outside the trench. You need a direct or near direct hit for casualties to happen. And even then you get only 1-2 at a time. Btw, there is a project that is trying to memorialize the Russian dead (death notice, grave which often have their picture, unit and death date, official announcements cross referenced against each other), so far they have already confirmed the Russian dead to be double what Moscow has admitted to. And they are not counting the dead Russians that the Ukrainians have posted which are based on the bodies they recovered and their ID's.

  781. Roll a dice, Odd and Seymore Hersh is telling the Truth, even and Hersh is telling a lie. That's how bad Hersh's reporting has been for the past 20 years. He use to be a decent investigative reporter, but for years now his reporting has been hit or miss.
