@Bob_Lob_Law Most Americans can't afford to pay $500 without taking out a loan, you think they can afford to pay for a 22k repair bill?

@blackmanwhitesuit Repairs use to be the standard, it's only when the cost a new item cost less than to repair it did it start falling out of favor. But in the case of Apple it seems that they are artificially making it difficult and costly to fix their products in order to sell more units.

@remliqa The mechanic at electrified garage who use to work for Tesla mentioned that pretty much every Tesla Model S will have it's motor replaced at least twice. Soo, my 1986 SAAB is still on it's 1st motor and transmission. And that car is not exactly a Toyota in terms of reliability.
5
@remliqa Chain? nope, the timing chain, given the proper lubrication will last as long as the engine or longer actually. And I've been working on cars since the 70's with my first car that I worked on was a 66 mini. While electric motors do have fewer parts, they are not immune to wear and tear. Bearings give out, lubrication issues can occur due to heat, electrical components fail. And before you say electrical components don't fail, electrical components failing is one of the leading automotive failures in call cars including Tesla's which have already developed a reputation as being one of the least reliable cars due to various electronic components failing.

It's standard practice You take an item with a known issue, and you take it to the repair store. If the repair person is competent they will find the issue and report it to you. If they don't and give you another failure as the cause, well you know something is wrong. You repeat that with several stores and repair shops.

As far as I know, as long as you are upfront with the customer about it, it's kosher.
2
Dust yourself off, and get back at it. The fight is going to be a long one.

@Bob_Lob_Law I own what I need to own because public transportation is more expensive and turns a 45 minutes trip into 90-120 minutes meaning I'd spend 4 hours a day commuting, and that does not include having to take the bus to buy groceries which i'd have to do more off since I could not buy a weeks groceries in one trip without a car.
1
@Bob_Lob_Law EV's don't have enough infrastructure to support it, maybe in 20 years when you have sidewalk charging.
1
@transcendtient The Model 3 and X are the same car, just different body. Same as the Corolla and the Matrix are the same car
1
@remliqa I own an 86 SAAB 900, that's how old now? It's weak point is the electronic, not the motor. Every day I see VW Beetles and vans that are now 50 years old, some with the original motor, some with brand new motors which are built using new parts and are assembled by VW engine builders.
1
@remliqa A Toyota Corolla will run up to 300k with routine on schedule maintenance, more if you take care of it and your drive consists of mostly miles of highway driving.
1
Meanwhile my 1986 SAAB 900 has a heater that on it's lowest setting feels like a blast furnace.
1
This has implications for Tesla.
1
@Falcariae Really? I seem to recall a million mile Volvo and Toyota making the news a while back.
1
5400RPM is decent if it's for storage.
1
@blackmanwhitesuit It's great for Apple, but screws their customers.
1
@blackmanwhitesuit Considering how their sales in China cratered, I'm thinking it's something they better start worrying about. Cause what happened in China, is going to spill over to India, Asia then Europe.

With the prices of office space in NYC, a company could pay for the space at their employee's residence, pay for the electricity, extra equipment and still save money.
