The problem with Tesla cultists is they can't stand it when anyone criticizes the cult or it's products. The man praised the battery, praised the engine, but that's not enough for the cultists. Engineering is engineering, old man or not, it's still the process. Btw If the chassis is too stiff, during an impact what ever energy that is not dissipated by the chassis bending will get transmitted to the passengers. But I'm sure that the great Musk has installed inertial dampeners to keep that from effecting the passengers.

PS, light years is a measure of distance, not time.

@drxmario2 I don't know you are paying up to 30% markup on a Model 3 I pay maybe 5-10% over cost on any other car.

Because the body is heavier than it needs to be, to complicated than it needs to be. You can get the same torsional stiffness with less weight and cost. Ex The wheel well he mentioned, it's made out of 9 parts, each part will overlap with other parts which means more material and more weight. Compared to the same part if made by Toyota would be a single piece unit that would weigh less then the Tesla 9 pc unit and would actually be stiffer because there are no joints.

You know folks have been building EV's since oh the 1900's, at one point 1/3 of all the cars registered in the USA were EV's. Nor is the Tesla Model 3 the first commercially available BEV car. It's just the most hyped.

@sambathsan4886 If the profit margin is 17-20% why is Tesla cutting it's workforce and shutting down almost all of it's stores to save money? Most car companies make money with just a 5% margin.
1
@sambathsan4886 except Tesla can't make them in China to sell to the USA. If they do, they get hit with import tariff. So whatever savings you get from building it in China, you lose in taxes and transportation costs.

@therealctoo4183 If Ford and GM were to announce that they were closing down their dealership networks, reducing their payroll and just switching to internet sales. You be saying that they are a healthy company?

@2CommaClub Do the updates continue after it's been on the road for 10 years and it's into it's 3rd or 4th owner?
1
@2CommaClub You may not keep the car more than 5 years, but the car will be on the road for more than 10 years.
1
@2CommaClub It has never needed a new software update.
1
@2CommaClub Only when I want it to.

@therealctoo4183 The sales method is dictated by the laws of the states, not the company.
1
@therealctoo4183 That must be why Tesla lobbied and was able to get a law passed in one state to be the only company to be allowed to sell BEV cars in that state without a dealership. Every other BEV company, per the law that Tesla helped write has to be sold through a dealership
