  6. The opposite of love is not hate. It is indifference. Most of us Star Wars fans (I have been a fan since my childhood in Nigeria) are simply done with Disney star wars, and so are the casuals. The constant antagonism towards fandom, toxic identity politics and disrespect for the lore, it is all too much! I will stick with the Lucas era movies and shows and EU books I have bought.

  15. As a newcomer to scifi, nerd and fantasy fandoms, i am absolutely in favor of gatekeeping to prevent these people from subverting and ruining escapism. I grew up in Nigeria watching fantasy and sci-fi shows like He-Man, Star Wars, Lord of the rings, Conan etc and i came to love the genres. It was only as i got older that i was able to get more into them via novels and video games and the communities welcomed me and helped me find more stuff to enjoy🎉 but all these woke people started ruining it with their toxic identity politics and attacking genuine fans (old and new) but i am happy to see this is gradually changing and the woke are being pushed out.

  17. Same, friend! I am black and was born and raised in Nigeria and loved movies and much of western media before all tis woke identity politics trash came into frame and ruined escapism for me. Now whenever I hear "diversity, inclusion" as a tag-line for any media or used as a selling point(wakanda forever, woman king etc) I just get revolted and tune out. When I was young, it was never like this. We had diverse media e.g. Hey Arnold, As told by Ginger, etc but they actually focused on good writing and characterisation rather than divisive identity politics. Thank God anime and manga exist.

  20. Yeah, it's brutal and taxing. No one denies this. But it is gradually changing for the better because of how massively profitable the industry has become. It may be changing slowly but it is and this is good because the improvements in conditions are natural and not forced like in the west.

  21. 12:10 Ironically, many of those "target audiences" they tried to get, myself included (being a young black millennial guy), just stopped buying western comics because of all the wokeness, toxif identity politics, antagonism towards readers, and terrible writing😒 I got into in 2015 via Jonathan Hockman and when All New All Different Marvel came, i dropped comics in 2018 cause i just hated how trash it was. I read and buy manga now.

I always said the real casuality of wokeness will be the tainting by association of genuine diversity and creativity in media and real life. The antagonistic attitude mainstream nedia has towards consumers, constant virtue signaling of toxic identity politics, poor production decisions etc. It is all coming to a head. i mean look at Assassin's Creed with Yasuke! He has been featured in many Japanese games, anime and manga and the issue of wokeness was never associated with him and his race was never used as some agenda but given western gane development and the infusion of toxic identity politics, it's no surprise the Ubisoft version became so controversial and they have nothing to help by only marketing based on his race and sexuality. I don't blame general audiences for simply getting fed up and becoming indifferent. Expect more of this for a while 😢

I was discussing the game on Twitter with some randos and many of the criticisms for the game was that the plot is about "stopping a slave rebellion and killing Jewish stereotypes" These people actually think the Goblins in Harry Potter are similar to Jewish people! They even tried to argue that a male (g)rapist should be allowed in a woman's prison because Rowling was against it! They are insane!

He mentioned how as the culture went through periods of polarisation and hollywood began churning out mediocre ideological-plagued content during the 60s, 70s, and 80s, it was small-scale producers and creators who began to make more entertaining and good content. It was also a time when westerns, noir crime shows and police procedurals became more popular in response to the crime waves, the cultural polarization, the nihilistic tones in mainstream movies and tv shows and comics. Basically, as the establishment kept pushing heir ideological garbage, more people had a yearning for good entertainment with more uplifting small-scale stories and characters.

  34. As a Christian, I see your point but I also feel that we shouldn't expect them to drop the double standards. They never will. But at the same time, we shouldn't be too worried. We are not like the MusIims who k*ll or oppress whenever their prophet or god is mocked.   44. Oh, I know what you mean. The version in Brave and the Bold was my first introduction to the character. I remember watching that show as a kid in Nigeria and Jaime was such a great character. He stumbled at first but picked himself up and got better as a hero. This live-action one is already tainted due to the association with the failed Snyder-verse and that mediocre trailer and the whole "Batman=fascist" line. So dumb.
