  1. Yes, a lot of manga is pirated.....And also a lot of manga is sold. Not just in Japan but in the west and not just via physical formats but also in cheaper digital format; something western comics have failed to utilize properly. Book Walker alone is proof of this. Any industry that has a product people enjoy very much will always deal with piracy but once they make it accessible and affordable, more and more people will become customers and not just consumers. Look at what Steam did for PC gaming!
