As a Nigerian, this video and history of Sudan makes me appreciate the fact that the British were the ones who colonized/created my country and not some other people like Arabs or the French. For all our issues, we are the richest African economy and one of the better stable ones. Most former British colonies tend to do better socioeconomically and politically compared to French ones. The British had a habit of importing and imposing their political and economic and social ideals on their colonies which tended to help them after colonialism. Yes, my country still has issues aplenty but compared to many other countries here in Africa and like Haiti, we are so much better economically and socially and politically and getting better still.

@Yar355 yeah, and who colonized the country first and for centuries before the Anglos came?

@Yar355 Um, You do know that the country of Sudan used to be the Christian kingdom of Nubia/Kush before Arab invasions and eventual conquest, right? Why do you think a good portion of the African tribes there remained Christian and split to form South Sudan?

@Yar355 So, you mean to tell me that in 700s AD, Arabs didn't invade Egypt and conquer it and failed to invade Nubia and convert them to Islam? You mean to tell me that they didn't impose a treaty on the Christian Nubian kingdoms and demand a tribute of slaves? You mean to tell me that the Mamluk ruler didn't eventually conquer Nubia in 1272 and officially Islamize the country? So none of this happened? Arabs just had Nubia all this time?

@hazchemel Thanks a lot, friend. Yeah, we certainly have our issues here but things are not nearly as terrible as some folks would have you believe. National unity may be frayed since the past 8 years of our current government but it is still high and other socio-economic factors are showing us positive outlooks for Nigeria. Therefore, we still want to make our country work. And, as you observe, there are many more countries both in Africa and outside, that have much worse than us.

@Thecommander248 Oh yes. Sad but true. Our current government of APC has really made a mess of our insecurity problem since 2015 when they assumed power but, thankfully, since 2019, they have been making gradual progress against islamists, kidnappers and other insurgents (militant IPOB) here. Our military budget has been increased, equipment and training improved and theses days, the strongholds of these terrorists, mainly in our north west and north east regions bordering unstable countries like Chad and Niger, have been seeing more of our military presence and clamping down on extremism.

@gideondejongh838 oh friend, South Africa is it's own special brand of crazy. On the surface, they appear as a modern and great country but deeper, they are a nation on the brink. Their economic inequality, rising crime, high corruption, declining infrastructure, growing and virulent xenophobia towards most foreigners, is why I just don't even bother with them. They could have gone the route of Botswana who had great leaders like Seretse Khama, but it's too late for them.

@algamaboba167 um, didn't the Mamluks of Egypt conquer and fully islamize Sudan (then called Nubai) in 1272?

@algorithmgeneratedanimegir1286 If he was Nigerian by birth and we voted for him, no problem. If he invaded like the Russians are doing in Ukraine, I would be enraged that my country's sovereignty was being infringed

@lamentoffalsefacade2.064 I and many others pray for this exact same thing, friend.

@gideondejongh838 I have to say, I respect that, friend. I may have my issues with SA government but ordinary people like you, so blunt but fair, down to earth and not promoting division or victimhood mentality, are the kind of folks I can absolutely respect.

@mattfm101 appreciate this and I'm glad my fellow citizens have given you such a good impression of us over there.
