As a Nigerian, I have come to the conclusion that Haiti is a lost cause and it's largely their own fault. They can't blame colonialism since DR and others who had it worse are doing better. They can't blame the debt since Germany had to pay more reparations for two world wars, Mexico lost territory and money to the USA and both are better. Their problems are due to their own socioeconomics, culture and history. Even after their revolution, their leaders reinstalled the plantation system and restricted civil rights and impoverished their own people while also invading and enslaving the DR. They are their own worst enemy.

@Binge_Zone always quick to make excuses. So why is Botswana doing so well? You can't always use this "colonialism" excuse😕
17
@irresponsibleparent3 actually, I am. I don't deny much of what you say. At least I acknowledge the flaws in my country instead of using excuses or blaming others for our self-made problems, like you people do with Haiti. Also, no. Half of my country is not under Boko Haram. It's more like a quarter and those places closer to unstable Sahel countries

@Binge_Zone I did read your comment. How disingenuous of you not to read mine. My point still stands. Resource wealth is not a guarantee of stability or Congo and Yemen would be prosperous
7
@scoobydoobers23 you are correct, friend. I was a bit too downcast. I do, indeed, want the country to get better but I also don't want to delude myself that Haiti has any chance of doing this by themselves at all. As bleak as this sounds, a foreign occupation and nation building plan with a stable Haitian government and fixing their broken institutions, is what will likely work

@Binge_Zone Botswana isn't only doing well because of diamonds. Seretse Khama's great leadership and Botswana's great culture and socioeconomics is what helps them, especially compared to their resource rich and geographically better neighbors. As for my country, you perfectly show why it's useless to use colonialism as an excuse. We are resource rich and not landlocked yet unstable and poor because of tribalism, poor socioeconomics and political corruption. Resource wealth is not a guarantee of stability. Haiti may lack resources yet they are in such prime geographic location. They could easily be a great tourism hub or a port center like Singapore. They have you g demographics and are close to the USA, an economic power house. What is their excuse?

@Binge_Zone so white colonialism is what causes government corruption here in Nigeria? It's what causes Islamic terrorists here too? Don't try and use that garbage with me. I live in reality and can't afford excuses

@NiffisWorld yes, built back by the west and yet you still had to pay back the war reparations😕 What is Haiti's excuse? Mexico lost land and territory and had to pay reparations to America yet they still built back their country and are now becoming a manufacturing power house. South Korea was horribly oppressed by the Mongols, Imperial China, Imperial Japan and severely underdeveloped during the Korean war yet why are they not like Haiti? They have bad soil and little resources like Haiti yet they improved. I really hate this culture of making excuses.
3
@Binge_Zone so how do you explain Switzerland? Heck! What about South Korea? They are not landlocked but they have poor soil like Haiti and little to no resources and were oppressed by multiple powers for longer.
2
@decodedpsyop I still don't understand your excuse. How does this explain Haiti's failure? Haitian Americans do well on average and are economically successful in the USA. Same with German-Americans. Even Jamaicans in America do well and their population is also small like Haitians yet Jamaica has good relations with America and better government and economic policies. So you can not use that lazy excuse 😕 Only difference is that Haiti has terrible culture, economic policies and terrible history of domestic government.
2
@Binge_Zone okay, do you think without diamonds Botswana would not be a good country today? They already had democracy, a culture of stability, valued education and capitalism and trade and civil rights. They also had good diplomatic relations with African and western countries. Do you really believe without diamonds, they wouldn't have done well? Good leadership and culture and economic policies did more for them than resources as seen by the majority of Africa.

@Sam-bp2st ironically enough, the ONLY reason Haiti even agreed to that debt plan with France was because their new ruler, Jean Pierre Boyer, wanted to avoid France invading and ending his new rulership he got after a coup. He didn't consult with any others and just agreed and passed on the debt to others for his own gain. He was also the ruler who invaded Dominican republic and brought back slavery there.

@Binge_Zone read my comment, liar.
1
@Binge_Zone I said South Korea is like Haiti. Poor geographically, little to no resources, and centuries of oppression yet they do better because of good diplomatic, economic and culture. You didn't read my comment at all, liar
1
@chickensalad3535 where did I say South Korea was landlocked?
1
@chickensalad3535 @Binge_Zone so how do you explain Switzerland? Heck! What about South Korea? They are not landlocked but they have poor soil like Haiti and little to no resources and were oppressed by multiple powers for longer.
1
@Binge_Zone you lied about my South Korea comment and now you are making typical excuses again😕 So South Korea did nothing of their own to improve their country? No policies or anything by themselves? @Binge_Zone so how do you explain Switzerland? Heck! What about South Korea? They are not landlocked but they have poor soil like Haiti and little to no resources and were oppressed by multiple powers for longer.
1
@chickensalad3535 good. You literally stated what I already did several hours ago. Were you just too daft to read my comments?
1
@HerbieDerbiez the debt issue is such a lazy excuse. Germany had to pay infinitely more as reparations for two world wars. Mexico lost land and had to pay reparations to America for a war. Both are better than Haiti. This is a lazy excuse.
1
@Binge_Zone so a country must have vested interest from global powers to be developed? Again, how do you then explain Switzerland who have no resources and are landlocked and were on threat of being invaded by others in Europe? Conversely, Venezuela had plenty of foreign vested interests due to oil and yet they are a poor nation today. People like you will always make excuses for failure due to identity politics
1
@scoobydoobers23 so you suggest giving criminals and terrorists resources to strengthen their strangle hold on innocent masses? How brilliant.......
1
@decodedpsyop and how is this an excuse? Vietnam were once bitter enemies of America and faced terrible geopolitical history with many of their Asian neighbors but the country is doing well economically and geopolitically today. Maybe Haiti should just get better government, culture and economic policies?!
1
@decodedpsyop Haiti also has a huge population in the USA and had several periods of funding and aid from the USA. So basically the only difference is that Germany had better culture and economic policies and government?
1
@decodedpsyop Haiti is in the Caribbean, and they are not ruled by western Europeans and are also homogeneous😕 Why are the other Caribbean countries not like Haiti?
1
@sammathenge630 yes, correct. Now tell me, are we Nigerians blaming others for our current situation, like Haiti, or admitting it's our own fault and actually trying to fix things?
1
@decodedpsyop oh, so Haiti's agriculture failure is mainly the fault of others and they have no responsibility for their own failures at all? And that is why I despise people like you. Always looking to make excuses for failure or disregard success when it comes to us black people😕 Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas all do well and have a history of exploitation and unfair trade imbalances with the USA, yet they decided to improve their countries with better government and economic policies. Haiti is the only one that refuses and yet you people will ALWAYS make excuses for them no matter what.
1
@decodedpsyop and despite all that, most of the Caribbean countries do better politically, economically, security-wise, than Haiti😕 What's your lazy excuse for them this time?
1
@decodedpsyop all of these issues you mentioned also affected other Caribbean countries. How are they doing better than Haiti then? So Haiti played no role at all in their own misfortune? It's all America's fault? Their own policies caused no problems for them? Also, what cheap labor?! Most American farm labor comes from Hispanics in Mexico, not Haiti. Haiti doesn't even produce enough crops worth international trade like Jamaica does.
1
@islandspice807 Germany had to pay reparations for two world wars. Mexico lost land and paid reparations to the US after their war. Both paid more than Haiti ever had to. South Korea was under brutal imperialism from Japan and also experiences natural disasters. Haiti has no excuse. There are other Caribbean countries that have experienced hardship and are better than them. They have no excuse.
1
@islandspice807 oh, I don't blame all of the Haitian people. I blame their politicians and aspects of their culture and socioeconomics. You also fail to mention how Haiti has literally received millions upon millions in foreign aid and funds all for free yet it seems to not do anything. The excuse of Germany and South Korea receiving money from the West is not a good one since Haiti has too.
