I am Nigerian and agree 100% with you on South Africa. They are a failing state and they have no one to blame but themselves. They inherited a country with everything lined up for greater success but are turning into Zimbabwe 2.0. They have no excuse. Botswana is literally next to them, has less resources but is politically stable and has better economics and infrastructure (they can actually keep the lights on!)

@Dracon7601 Actually, Botswana was not "unnoticed." What made them such a better country pre and post colonialism is that their culture and socio-political style was similar to what the British had i.e. more representative form of traditional government with Chiefs having to be elected and rule via merit and good will of the people. That ensured that stuff like meritocracy and even individual rights were upheld. Also, they were almost assimilated into apartheid/white-ruled Southern Africa, especially for their diamonds, until their leaders actually asked the British to take colonial rule of their country because the British were a far better option than apartheid Afrikaans (Look it up, I am not lying). And as I mentioned, their socio-cultural way of life was already similar to what the British had and when they started imposing stuff like democracy, capitalism, etc, Botswana adopted to all of them very well compared to many other African colonies. That is why till today, they remain one of the most politically and economically stable countries in Africa.

@samuelolwe2909 Guy, I am Nigerian and even I am confused after reading your comments. Despite colonialism, my country didn't collapse and has been improving because of good socioeconomic policies like capitalism and democracy here. We have also surpassed South Africa as Africa's largest economy despite them being more "developed" than us. What exactly is their excuse?

@amb.3948 so is Nigeria more economically unequal than South Africa? Is rape and armed robbery worse here than South Africa? Is birthrates and demographics worse here than South Africa? Is our economy declining like South Africa? Please, tell me naija guy.

@FunnyFlocka Fair points but you do know that we had a bloody civil war and several decades of military dictatorship before returning to democracy and yet we actually improved despite that? Also, for future reference, Nigeria is not the most corrupt country in Africa according to Transparency Index. That goes to Somalia, Libya and South Sudan unfortunately due to their recent civil unrest. We actually dropped in the corruption index from 5th to 14th. As for terrorism, we also dropped from the 3rd most terrorized to the 8th. Yeah, not a huge change but we actually are trying to fix ourselves and don't deny our own reality.

@karinasnooodles_ no. We are not worse and if you don't believe me, feel free to book a trip to South Africa and Nigeria, then walk the streets of Durban or Johannesburg and Abuja, Lagos, or Kaduna. Economic inequality here has been decreasing, our demographics are better, AIDS epidemic is not present here, we are gradually industrializing and our economy is diversifying, we are not among the worst countries for rape, robbery and homicide like South Africa and we are not famous for killing Africans of other nationalities or foreigners due to xenophobia. We have issues in Nigeria but if you seriously think we are worse than South Africa, you're confused sadly.

@olajong2315 then prove me wrong. Is South Africa's demographics not declining? Is their economy not declining compared to that of Kenya and Nigeria? Are crime, rape and murder not increasing there? Is their power grid and infrastructure not declining? Is national unity not declining? Is unemployment not rising? Is economic inequality not the highest in the world there? Is xenophobia not increasing there? Is the government not planning on seizing white farms and giving them to blacks like Zimbabwe did? If I am wrong about any of this, please tell me.

@sikholamla8299 Guy, I am not giving any sympathy. Also, I and many Nigerians have no problem with you guys dealing with Nigerian criminals in your country but why are you people so xenophobic to all of us Nigerians who are not even criminals? And not just us, but other Africans?

@FunnyFlocka Oh yeah. We, sadly, do have a problem with terrorism and insecurity here owing largely to our porous northern borders that enable terrorists from neighboring Sahel countries to come in. Our military has gotten better at dealing with them but we can do better. Thankfully, they are now mainly contained to the northern fringes of my country. Aside from all that, how does this downplay South Africa's worsening crime statistics, especially for a country that is miles above mine in terms of development and infrastructure? Shouldn't yours be lessening, especially since you don't border many hostile or unstable countries like mine does?

I mean have you seen the latest video from BBC where they interview Zulus forming mobs and gangs to kill and remove immigrants (other Africans) and also target white people?! Ukraine has an excuse for being in a state of war. What is South Africa's excuse for this kind of instability?
