The first time I ever learned about J.R.R Tolkien was when I was a kid in Nigeria in 2004. My dad bought a DVD of Lord of the Rings for me and my siblings to watch after he watched it during his trips abroad. We loved it, especially me as a young boy. I even loved the Hobbit movies when they came out decades later. It was only when I emigrated to Canada that I was able to buy the actual LotR books, including the Hobbit, and read them finally. Truly beautiful works of fiction😌 Because of Tolkien, I was able to discover other great fantasy authors and books like Robert E. Howard, Brandon Sanderson etc. Also,I had no idea Tolkien was an African! A son of the soil😯

Nelson Mandela was a great leader, undoubtedly, and a great peace maker but he was also not a saint by any means. He and his group, even his wife, were involved in multiple episodes of human torture, unjustified killings, and his political handling of post-apartheid South Africa could have been done better in terms of economics (SA remains the most economically unequal country on Earth), industry and especially the AIDS crisis. And it sadly looks like his successors in the ANC party are not about or willing to improve things in the country as racial and ethnic unity have been plummeting post-apartheid.

One of the things I have come to appreciate greatly about your channel is how objective and well researched your videos are. Most "documentaries" of the American civil war would simply jus boil it down to black-and-white factors but you go deeper and explore all areas and deliver a balanced take on it. Respect to you and your team!

Is there any chance you guys will do a video on Seretse Khama, the most underrated and amazing African leader, in many people's opinion? Seriously, how he led Botswana before and after colonialism, and ensured the country's bright future, is something that deserves great recognition😌👍

Yep. Such was life for Uncle Claudius🙄🙄

For every great general, there is a counterpart. Ulysses was the Scipio to Lee's Hannibal.

Eternal respect to Ataturk from me-a Nigerian and a Christian-for having vision, resolve and determination to build his nation into a strong, nationalist and modern entity that cherished it's heritage but would not be stifled and hindered by it. Really amazing how such a leader like him accomplished so much despite the real threat of hard-line islamic fundamentalism and foreign interference potentially ending his life and undermining everything he worked for. It is undeniable that modern Turkey owes him and his cohorts a great debt. He is like Seretse Khama.

8:35 Okay, I am more than a little confused at this part. You make it sound as if the national socialist party was not fully on board with socialism and that only a segment was socialist. Didn't hitler literally write in his book how he viewed capitalism as a Jewish construct to undermine Germany's economy? Why are you trying to make it seem like he and his followers were not socialists?

We already are. Look at what is happening in China. Look at the Rohingya crisis. The Yazidi massacres etc.

@thecrimsoncure8201 sure, if you think so. Also, I am black and Nigerian. Not sure why you assumed I was white by you dumb comment. Or do you only assume non-black people can criticize Africa? Maybe ANC should have had better politicians instead of the corrupt xenophobic ones who have ruined South Africa.

Cool, friend. I can't imagine such a thing like seeing someone related to a historical figure (infamous or otherwise) up close. Also,God on his son for moving on and succeeding in life. Glad he didn't let his father's crimes hinder him.
