I was genuinely surprised that woke hollywood made this movie🤔🤔 Many of us in Africa, especially us Nigerians, know of how Dahomey was a slaver kingdom that only stopped slavery because, ironically, the Europeans conquered them and forced them to stop slavery. Who thought this movie was a good idea?!

@Yehan-s3c Yes, we have that in our history and we have never denied it but most of us are also glad teh British ended their slavery.

@richardokorafor7472 Yeah, I know what you mean, friend. My own ancestors in the Benin kingdom were also slavers who were conquered by the British and thus their slavery system was abolished. It is sad to know one's ancestors were conquered but also it makes me happy that the evil of slavery was stamped out and the fact that I and my people are still alive and our culture still persists clearly shows that we didn't lose much in the end.

@bw3240 I love his works. That man is such a great historian and economist and exemplary black man.

@lynnemontgomery5583 Oh, you are absolutely right. they did make money off it, even though they were relatively new to it compared to the Arabs and various African tribes and kingdoms that practiced slavery for millennia. But what separates the Europeans (the British mainly) is that they were one of the very few who saw slavery for the immoral evil it was and used their economic and military might to abolish it and later help ensure it would become culturally deplorable across much of Africa and the world. So there.

@Charles Okay, friend. I think I see your point. None of us here are denying the role of the Europeans in the slave trade but we are also not solely placing the reason for slavery on the Europeans. As you acknowledge, slavery existed here in Africa long before the Europeans came here. I even acknowledged it as well in one of my own comments in this thread. However, if you expect me to simply gloss over what the kingdom of Dahomey did during their time as a slaver kingdom, simply because I am African and black, i will not because that is not being objective and it's also evil. I am also not going deny the fact that the Europeans (specifically the British) did more abolish slavery in much of Africa than even the African kingdoms did. Finally, what is this nonsense about "We black people are so lost because we are taught African history by white people"? Unless the history is false, why should the race of who teaches it matter? Can you prove anything I said was a lie? why are you trying to bring race and identity politics into this?

@fitveggie3708 Oh, I am well aware of this. And while it is good to point this out, It doesn't remotely change or undermine the good that came from the French moving into the region. Good things don't always come out of good intentions. that's an ironic fact of life. For example, America, and the world, got rocket technology and much more because they recruited a nazi scientist. My country, Nigeria-faults and many benefits it has, came into existence because of British colonialism.

@Ferg926 of course, I am a robot or a fraud because apparently no black person can ever have these kinds of opinions🤣 We all think the same, or like you. Screw off.
1
@Ferg926 so, basically, you think I am a robot because no black person can have an opinion like mine? all of us should think the same or as you do?😂
