  1. That observation of how East Asian cultures revere their elderly while having low fertility rates reminds me of a story i read in a Korean folklore book. It was about some guy whose mother was sick. He then has to find some magical ginseng and i think he loses his life or has to sacrifice his kid to save his mom and the story portayed it as a wonderful thing😅 Yeah, that is definitely weird. As a Nigerian, we certainly respect our elders here but not to that extreme and even they rightly understand not to take it to an extreme because while they have ingrained discipline into is, they also don't want us to neglect ourselves and the next generation. My grandmother in her 90s is now being cared for by her kids and us grandkids a d she loves us but also frequently tells us (me and other grandkids) to ONLY help her when we can and not to hurt ourselves on her account. She also jeeps frequently telling me to find a womana ndhave kids because she wants the next generation to happen.

  2. Yes, but even those immigrants tend to eventually have the same low birth rates due to effective cultural and social assimilation in Anglophone/western countries. But not nearly as severe as East Asian birthrate drops.
