As a Nigerian, let me offer a simple example of why the western left power theory is wrong. When the British colonized us, one thing they did later on was to abolish slavery and enforce it via economic pressure and military pressure. This was something no other African tribes or Arab tribe had ever done. They did it because they had the power to do so and we in Africa still benefit from this today. Having power doesn't make you evil not does being powerless make you good.

@tessalee6253 yes, but you know the difference between this and actual slavery? I am free to not work and not get a salary. I could go into the forest and lives like a hermit. As a slave in the past, no such choice existed.

@N0sf3r4tuR1s3n You are correct, my friend. They were flawed but far better than most others. That is one main reason why most of us former British colonies actually chose to embrace and maintain/adopt the sociopolitical, economic and cultural frameworks they left us and why we maintain good ties with them. Heck! Botswana actually asked to become a protectorate of the British to avoid Rhodesia conquering them.

@mphomkhalipi6537 Friend, how did the Biafra war happen? I will tell you: A Nigerian soldier named Kaduna Nzeogwu and his conspirators, killed several of our prominent political leaders. This led to ethnic clashes between Northerners and Igbos. He was then arrested and set for execution for treason. He escaped prison and fled to the East of Nigeria where another general named Ojukwu, sheltered him against the advice of other Igbo people. They then chose to secede from Nigeria and push Igbos into a civil war most of them didn't want. When they lost, Ojukwu fled with embezzled funds and faces no repercussions after the reconciliation movement and mainly Igbos suffered. Our first Republic was ended tragically and Nigeria was then u der several decades of military rule that wrecked our economy and social fabric. Thankfully, we have been healing.

@tonyrmathis oh yeah. I see your point. Sadly, government overreach is a problem. Thankfully, in your part of the world, tragedies like Ruby Ridge are exceptions and not the general rule. Plus, he got some recompense, right?
