@watsonholmes1525 And paganism was real? Maybe just maybe our ancestors gravitated towards Christianity because it actually led to so many progressive (the good kind) changes in society like doing away with retribution-based edicts in pagan religions? helping to end/condemn slavery worldwide? spurring development and proliferation of science? etc? Seems petty for someone who lives in a liberal society built on the foundation of Judeo-Christian culture to be hating on it. You don't have to practice Christianity but maybe act like less of an ass by not needlessly criticizing it for lols.

Mock them as much as you want. I just hope you are also mocking islam, judaism and other religions in the bargain or you are just a damn hypocrite.

@oohehoohahahtingtang1232 Good for you. I've never been raped in a church or mosque either but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Don't go on any hiking trails in Morocco or any Christmas gatherings in downtown Germany or any central Asian country at night.

L Hunter It would make you a hypocrite demanding nobody makes fun of your own religion, but really we make fun of religions we have familiarity with. I actually see the sense in this. It makes sense that people stick to what they are familiar with.

@ashishpatel350 Yeah, I know about that. Was that how it was for all of Christianity like it was for much of islam? Were the Irish forced to convert like that? Were we Nigerians forced to convert like that?

@edmondgreen7970 Guy, I never once disagreed that some people in the past, and even some today, were forced into Christianity like some Germanic tribes Charlemagne conquered. My main assertion is that that was never the main way Christianity usually spread. It mainly co-opted existing religions e.g. Celtic religions in Ireland and even traditional spiritualist religions in parts of sub-saharan or simply enticed people into it's fold by by offering better spiritual guidance social reforms than their previous religions e.g. ancient Rome and even feudal Japan until the repressions. Africa. Islam was fundamentally about conquest and mainly spread that way.

@mq5731 Well said, friend. That is one of the things I have really come to appreciate about this country since I emigrated here. Heck! In this thread I have been having a good back and forth of ribbing and jokes with someone far better at it than me.

@cidfacetious3722 We do criticize him but do be aware that his position, though being a spiritual leader, is largely still political. The local Archbishops have way more influence and respect in various countries and areas than he does because they are actually more on the ground and more directly involved with church members. We of the church largely just don't care anymore whatever stupid ridiculous garbage he says. He will be replaced when his time is over. It was the same with benedict. It will be the same with him.
