I used to be a SONY hater and bemoaned how they were holding Spider-Man hostage and mocked them for trying to create their own cinematic universe but that was when the MCU was genuinely great. After seeing just how much of a s*it-show it has become, I honestly give SONY credit for being smart and holding onto the rights for Spider-Man. Had he been with Marvel, they would have ruined him irreparably.

@nigelcorboy826 I am black and am no fan of certain aspects of those movies liek race-swapping Mary Jane as a black person with Zendaya and making her character unlikable. Am I a bigot for hating blatant tokenism?

@nigelcorboy826 You raise some good points but using the "realistic representation" card is not a very good one. These characters were established the way they were in their universe and I also doubt being in a city is a good excuse for changing someone's race. I mean by that logic Cleopatra should be depicted as black (even though she wasn't) simply because Egypt is in Africa. A better defense would be that the studio just wanted to cast someone marketable but they failed to actually make her interesting or necessary to the plot of the overarching movies like the old MJ was and as such, her character ends up as one of the more forgettable elements in it and just feels like more tokenism.
