This video of yours makes me remember something similar in my country, Nigeria. There was this monopoly we had called NITEL (Nigerian Telecommunications) that managed and controlled all the phone lines in the country since the 70s. It was garbage and just to set up a landline, people had to pay ten of thousands of Naira (a lot of money back then😲) Well, the very year I was born in 1992, the democratic government ended the monopoly and began to privatize the telecom industry. Within 5 to 6 years, even as I was a toddler, I began to see cellphones (really old style flip phones) and even ads for phone carries like MTN and cellphone and even landline prices dropped and service became better. Just another proof of how awesome capitalism can be.

15:00 I can relate. For me growing up in Nigeria, the rarity fruits of choice were apples and grapes. If you know anything about West Africa, our climate is terrible for growing both fruits and the only way we could get them was via importing from South Africa and Europe. they were expensive and anytime you got some, you would savor them.

21:05 Oh, I know what you mean, sir. Having grown up in Nigeria and visited the U.K. and am currently schooling and working in Canada, I agree about the difference in food quality and even produce. In Nigeria, the meat and vegetables and fruits were cheaper and fresher and tasted better. Our oranges are not orange on the outside at all and look mainly green with yellow but are so tasty and tartly-sweet on the inside. Fish is also really REALLY cheap and fresh in Nigeria but here in the west, fish is one of the most expensive things in their supermarkets! It's ridiculous!

Wow! A lot of these market scenes with the fresh produce all remind me of the markets we have in Nigeria (except for the breadlines and shortages. We don't have much for those, thankfully😌) We do have western-style supermarkets and grocery stores but not as many due to their priceyness. There is a LOT OF HAGGLING btw😂 The only times I recall line-ups in Nigeria were during fuel "shortages" either caused by worker strikes, price fluctuation (causing panic buying), or supply chain issues. There was always fuel but the stupid government kept mismanaging distribution.

22:55 Sadly, things have changed. Now we cannot even make fun of the potato-in-chief, Brandon, without social media and corporations banning us but we could make fun of the Orange Man all we wanted.

So basically, how I do my laundry today as a young Nigerian millennial man is how Soviets did their laundry back then?😲 I feel somewhat special now😌 BTW, we have laundry machines here (we are not that undeveloped😏) I just happen to be a bachelor still in University who doesn't wear a lot of different clothing and constant power supply is not here yet. Plus, the heat of the sun works fine to dry my laundry.

5:20 An aging and decrepit politician installed into the highest seat of governmental power? Why does this sound familiar? Let's Go, Brandon

Going to jail for making jokes about the government or expressing counter mainstream opinions? I hope this never happens in the western world.......😐😐😐
