As a Nigerian, i hope this eventually leads to Russia failing here in Africa. They helped overthrow democracy in the Sahel (Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso) and now insecurity has gotten worse. They also control the gold mines there and the juntas are removing civil liberties and this insecurity is now spreading to the rest of west Africa.

@faisal0280 no, you are right. But then again, no country has a stellar record but let's just say there's more reasons why most of us in Africa (at least sub-Saharan) still prefer to have relations and diplomacy with the west, America etc than with places like Russia. We can at least trust Americans to be more honest in dealings and guarantee security for shipping and trade.

@kabzaify oh, I am not misinformed at all, friend. I know that the downfall of Libya after Gadaffi led to more insurgency spreading down to us in the Sahel and west Africa but I also know the west didn't cause that collapse. Gadaffi created the rebel movements that eventually toppled him by his repression of tribes and political dissidents. The only thing the west did was help rebels at the last minute. Without them, the same outcome would have happened.

@kabzaify I dunno. My country (Nigeria), others like Ghana, Kenya, Namibia etc have strong long ties to the west and we have better stability compared to places like Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia etc that have little to no relations with the West

@faisal0280 simple: Afghanistan development was largely limited to Kabul and other urban areas. Further development and consolidation was hindered by the geography and disparate disunited cultures. The corruption of the Afghan authorities didn't help either. Iraq was a mistake due to the desire for nation building there. Should have simply been limited to removing Saddam and installing a monarchy or working with a friendly Arab power to stabilize/reform the country. Finally, look at Syria and Afghanistan pull-outs by Russia and America. When America left Afghanistan, many people tried to flee with them while when Russia left Syria, many people cheered.

@SuperDrake85 many good and true points you raise, friend. But as for Turkey, I really don't see them making headway into sub-Saharan Africa as they are more inclined towards the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Middle East (at least the Levant and Mesopotamia). Your observations on Nigeria make sense a d my government has been ramping up military reforms and improvements mainly to tackle internal insecurity, and safeguard our coasts and land trade routes. However, more needs to be done and we are also still involved in diplomatic ties with the West (we recently had drills with France, the UK and America. So France is still present here but taking a different approach to diplomacy with us in Africa after the fallout in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso) mainly because I think Trump and the USA aim to pull back on their massive Navy presence and simply ally with pro-western regional powers (like my country) who can potentially fill that vacuum. I do hope we don't miss this opportunity, as you point out. It can be very beneficial for us and others in the region because stability and good diplomatic ties with others, especially the West (for all their flaws), is something we need here in Africa. As for China, the only thing they are interested in here in Africa is debt diplomacy, and extraction without any serious long term geopolitical or strategic aims. We trade with them because of the economic benefits and affordability but we also know of their negative impacts like illegal fishing off our coasts, illegal mining here in Nigeria and much of Africa, terrible loans with massive interests and some really useless infrastructure projects.

@jackharle1251 workable?! Russian backed Juntas in the Sahel have made things worse. Insecurity and economic hardships are increasing. Their gold mines are being controlled by Russia. Civil liberties are being removed. Criticize the Juntas and either jail, forced conscription or worse happens. No, most of us in Africa prefer democracy and capitalism mainly cause that's what has been shown to actually improve things here.

@thankgodkelechi9843 yes, I so your point but can you honestly deny any of the points I made? Is this not what is happening in the Russian backed/controlled Sahel three? Also, while I certainly don't speak for all Nigerians, do you think I am the only one with this sentiment/view of Russia in Africa? If not, shouldn't more of our people be supportive of the Juntas there?

@Lykan443 oh, I never said our corruption is not a problem but is that a reason not to criticize Russian interference here or their sponsored military Juntas? And the problems their presence has caused for the rest of West Africa?

@niyaziugur Agree. Turkey will most likely win big geopolitically in the middle East and parts of North Africa. They have the better military, better economy, better cultural systems (they are Islamic but also secular and this helps them have good relations with the West and moderates in the middle East), better demographics and industrialization.
